INDONESIAKININEWS.COM - For pro makeup artist tips, look no further than Youtube — that is, of course, if you’re 25 and your skin is as tau...
That’s not true for those of us in middle age and/or rounding the corner of perimenopause and menopause. Though at 52, I’m more self-confident than I’ve ever been, a little contour and a swipe of blush never hurts; and much like my skin has changed over the years, so too has my style — especially my makeup style. You absolutely will not find me using a glowy eyeshadow palette or a frosty lip color. (That said, the shimmer of ’80s cosmetics will always hold a special place in my heart).
These days, I prefer a more natural makeup look. Here’s a list highlighting gorgeous looks for women 50 and older — because we’re in our prime, and thus, deserve beauty love, too.
What are the best natural eye makeup styles?
The eyes are the windows to the soul — so let’s emphasize them with natural makeup, shall we?
1. Embrace the no-makeup makeup look with eyeshadow.
Eyeshadow can be pretty intimidating — especially if you’re a beginner trying to achieve the “no makeup” look. Pop on to Instagram, and you’ll see intricate cut creases, color layers, gradients, and a whole lot of glitter. Frankly, it’s way too complicated, and it doesn’t have to be. To prove it, here are some gorgeous natural eyeshadow looks and how to do them:
- Cool Taupe: Opt for a cool-toned shadow like purple-gray, gray-brown, light brown, or beige to give your eyes dimension without looking like too much. To add the faintest wash of color to your lids, swipe the taupe eyeshadow from your lash line up to your crease. To keep it natural, avoid extending the color beyond the upper edge of your creases.
- Peach: If you’ve never worn peach eyeshadow, you’re missing out. This feminine shade applied across the lid and along the lower lash line is stunning and natural. The trick? Keep it matte. This means no glitter, sparkle, or sheen.
- Gold: When most people think of golden eyeshadow, the image of high-shine, glittery finishes comes to mind. Golds without tons of pigment, however, deliver an elevated, effortless look.
2. Give translucent mascara a try.
There’s nothing I love more than quality mascara, but as I’ve aged, I’ve applied it differently. Rather than layering on wild shades of mascara (think blue, green, and pink), I’ve begun using translucent mascara. Yep, you read that right — clear mascara. Why? Because translucent mascara bulks up lashes and adds depth and dimension. In other words, it’s a true “no makeup” makeup look. Here’s a quick YouTube video to show you more.
3. Apply brown eyeliner.
Gone are the days when black eyeliner was all the rage — today, it’s all about brown eyeliner. Why is brown eyeliner so popular among age-defying natural beauties? Because it’s much softer than black eyeliner. To wear, apply brown eyeliner to your upper and lower lash line. Then, use a brush to soften the inner corner of your eyes ever so slightly. What are the best natural lip makeup styles?
Now that we’ve covered the eyes, let’s address the pout. Here are makeup tips and tricks for achieving a long-lasting natural makeup look on your lips.
1. Go for a matte nude lip.
Matte lipstick is highly pigmented and has a shine-free, velvety-smooth finish. Unlike lip stain or lip gloss, it isn’t glossy. Instead, matte lipsticks convey depth and smooth, even texture. To keep your lip makeup as natural as possible, opt for a matte nude lip that closely resembles your lip’s natural color. It will plump your lips, hide feathering (when brighter lip colors sink and spread into the fine lines around the lips), and look like you’re not wearing any lipstick (or makeup) at all.
Pro Tip: To find your perfect shade, go for a color that’s slightly darker and warmer than your natural skin tone.
2. Try tinted lip balm.
For a no-makeup makeup lip look, try tinted lip balm. These gorgeous lip balms come in many forms — some are super pigmented and hydrating, while others offer just the right amount of tint and sheen — but all of them enhance your natural glow. To keep your makeup looking as natural as possible, opt for a moisturizing lip balm with a smidge of color. Keep it in your purse to reup your natural glow throughout the day.
3. Pair lip liner and clear gloss.
Lip liner plus lip gloss is an underrated makeup combo — the line saturates the lips while the gloss’s sheen makes them appear fuller. For a low-key look, pair nude-colored lip liner with a clear gloss. For a pop of color, apply lip liner in a shade one step lighter than your gloss.
How do you get that natural glow?
There’s no confidence boost quite like youthful, dewy skin. After a certain age, though, this is harder to achieve. Here are a few tips for getting the look.
1. Start with primer and moisturizer.
Like all good things, you want your flawless makeup to last. This is where a quality primer can help. These beauty stables smooth the skin’s surface for the best makeup application. Creases? Not when you have a good primer!
In addition to primer, you’ll want to hydrate skin with moisturizer. Our skin tends to get dryer as we age, which can accentuate wrinkles and fine lines. To combat this, apply moisturizer daily. It will help to hydrate problem areas, resulting in a smoother makeup look.
2. Tinted BB cream is your friend.
Tinted BB cream is woman’s best friend. It’s a full-coverage foundation alternative that’s meant to hydrate the skin while providing sheer coverage. BB cream helps to even out rough spots, cover small imperfections, calm redness, and add moisture — thus brightening a dull complexion and making your skin look vibrant. While there are many BB creams on the market, the best are those with SPF and other anti-aging ingredients like peptides and antioxidants.
3. Go for cream blush.
Blush brightens and freshens the complexion, but too much it can make you look anything but natural. To keep it simple, stick with cream blush, which has a dewy finish that feels more natural and modern than the powder blushes found in everyday makeup bags of yore. Plus, the moisture in cream blush is especially perfect for mature skin, which tends to be drier. For a natural finish (as opposed to one that looks streaky or harsh), apply cream blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend upward in a circular motion. Are you a visual learner?
